Supporters Demand Arrest of Individual Who Grabbed Ariana Grande
Devoted supporters of the actress are urging that a person who breached a fence and touched the celebrity during Thursday's Wicked: For Good premiere be taken into custody or expelled from Singapore.
A circulating video reveals the individual from Australia shoving aside photographers and lunging at Grande while the cast proceeded down a promenade flanked by onlookers.
Cast member Cynthia Erivo quickly pulled the surprised actress away from Mr Wen, who was spotted being escorted out of the premiere by guards.
Mr Wen stated on Instagram late on Thursday that he was "released after being arrested", though court documents showed that he was due to attend court on the following morning. It is not clear if he was formally accused.
Pattern of Incidents
This is not the first time for Mr Wen, who labels himself a "Notorious Troublemaker", has invaded a performance. His Instagram feed features videos of him disrupting other celebrity events, including jumping on stage at the artist's Sydney performance in earlier this year and in a comparable manner during The Chainsmokers event in the same location last winter.
"Measures must be taken enforced against him as this is evidently a criminal offence," commented an Instagram commenter, in a response to a video Mr Wen uploaded of his actions.
"This appears to be a habit... why are you not imprisoned?" a different Instagram user wrote.
Supporters Show Disapproval Over Grande's Past Trauma
Numerous fans criticized Mr Wen for "causing further distress" Grande, who had revealed suffering from PTSD after a terrorist explosion at the finale of her spring 2017 show in Manchester, claiming the lives of 22 people and harming hundreds.
"The star has endured numerous terrifying experiences... including the Manchester tragedy, and you believed breaching security was amusing?" commented one more response on Instagram.
A number of fans also faulted event staff at the Thursday event for not being adequately prepared; while some demanded social media platforms to block Mr Wen's uploads.
Response and Event Details
In clips shared widely, Grande seemed startled when she was approached by the intruder. Her cast members Michelle Yeoh and Erivo can be observed comforting her while Mr Wen was led out by security.
Grande has remained silent on the event, and the rest of the event continued without further issues.
Hundreds of supporters had gathered in a sea of colorful attire at the Wicked: For Good regional premiere in a Singapore mall, including some who had queued for as long as eight hours before it commenced.
The film, to be premiered on November 21, is the follow-up of a two-part version of the popular stage production Wicked, which centers on the unlikely friendship between two contrasting sorceresses.
The musical itself is a adaptation of the 1900 children's novel The Wonderful Wizard of Oz.
Grande, who acts as the benevolent sorceress Glinda, was adorned in a champagne pink sparkling outfit at the premiere while Erivo, who portrays the wicked witch, wore a elegant ensemble decorated with roses.
They were alongside cast member Jeff Goldblum.
The first movie, Wicked, was the highest-grossing motion picture of last year in the UK, and received 10 Academy Award nods, earning several for best costume and set decoration.
