Space-Based Images Depict Iranian Navy and Atomic Facilities Struck by American and Israeli Attacks.
A wave of American and Israeli strikes has according to analysis sunk or crippled no fewer than eleven Iran's navy ships starting the weekend, recently obtained orbital imagery show, with launch facilities and nuclear sites also being targeted.
Pictures of the southern Konarak naval naval base and the Bandar Abbas facility, which sits on the Strait of Hormuz and houses the headquarters of the Iranian navy, show black smoke pouring from multiple vessels on the start of the week.
Naval Forces Incurred Substantial Damage
Among the vessels destroyed was the IRINS Makran, the country's biggest warship which had served as a drone carrier. Satellite images indicated black smoke rising from the vessel which had been moored at the Bandar Abbas naval base.
Intelligence evaluations suggest that at least a quintet of warships at the port were "damaged or eliminated". Pictures of the southern part of the harbor depict smoke rising from the IRINS Makran, while additional ships are visibly harmed, with a single one visibly ablaze.
At the Konarak base, photos show several damaged vessels, with intelligence reports pointing to damage to six ships. Pictures taken on Monday also show that several facilities at the base have been demolished.
"For decades the Iran's leadership has harassed commercial vessels," the head of US Central Command stated. "At present, there is not one vessel from Iran operational in the Persian Gulf, Hormuz Strait or Sea of Oman, and we will continue."
Some ships reportedly destroyed may have been concealed in satellite images by cloud or smoke, or targeted offshore, and have yet to be fully confirmed. Other accounts stated that a ship from Iran was going down near Sri Lanka's territorial waters, resulting in a rescue operation.
Rocket Installations and Atomic Facilities Targeted
Eliminating Iran's rocket sites and the stopping atomic bomb programs were listed as additional goals of the offensive. Satellite images also depicted impacts against the southern Khorgu base and northwestern Tabriz missile missile bases, and at the Konarak air air base, where missile storage facilities and fortifications were targeted.
Over at the Choqa Balk-e drone base west of the city of Kermanshah, extensive destruction was identified to sheds, underground facilities and UAV launching apparatus.
Damage was also observed at a surveillance station at the Zahedan airbase military airport in eastern Iran, close to the frontier with neighboring nations.
Significantly, the latest wave of attacks have reportedly targeted sites at Natanz – considered at the center of Iran's enrichment efforts. An international watchdog stated that the damaged structures were used for access to the facility's underground enrichment facility and that "no release of radioactive material" was anticipated.
Wider Consequences and Analysis
Observers stated that the offensive appeared to have "largely neutralized" the Iranian navy's ability to sustain standard operations using its most significant warships. But, it was stressed that Iran maintains the option to launch irregular strikes at sea through the use of drones, mini-submarines and its so-called "clandestine network" of oil ships.
The total scope of the destruction caused to Iranian military facilities has yet to be fully assessed, with attacks reportedly persisting. Pictures also indicates considerable destruction to the main offices of the the IRGC in the city of Tehran.
A significant number of civilian buildings also appear to have been struck in the capital city and throughout Iran since the conflict escalated. Toll estimates from inside Iran suggest that a high number of non-combatants may have been lost their lives in the bombardment.
With the conflict ongoing, review of satellite imagery will carry on to assess the unfolding military landscape.
