Patrick Bamford Joins Sheffield United After Initiating Abusive Songs Targeting Coach Wilder

Patrick Bamford is now a member of Sheffield United just half a year after instigating disrespectful taunts aimed at the team's coach, Wilder.

The 32-year-old striker, without a club since leaving Leeds, has put pen to paper on a agreement joining the Championship club in difficulty through the winter. Bamford's lengthy time with Leeds concluded by mutual consent in August.

Among the player's last memorable actions as a Leeds player involved leading abusive chants about Wilder during the club’s promotion party in April. Now, the former England international is set to play for Wilder as the Blades’ manager seeks to pull the team he loves out of the drop zone.

Past Conflict Involving the Striker & Wilder

Both men had previous conflict prior to Leeds won promotion back to the Premier League last season and United were defeated in the playoff final to Sunderland. The manager called Bamford as “a muppet” back when the situation was different during the 2018-19 season and Sheffield United secured automatic promotion whereas Leeds United fell short in the promotion playoffs.

Making Amends and Looking Ahead

Everything appears to have been resolved with United, the Championship’s lowest scorers, in desperate need of improvement up front and Bamford hoping to revive his career.

The song about Wilder spread widely this spring. An apologetic Bamford along with Leeds boss, Daniel Farke, phoned Wilder the next day.

Chris Wilder said at the time: “Spoke with Pat yesterday and I’ve no problem whatsoever with it. I’m not sure about the language from a fellow pro! But I appreciated and admired him calling me.

“We spent a short while and the same again I talked with Daniel as well and had a longer discussion together and he is a great person, a top guy. When I was playing we would give it and take it and that’s part and parcel of football at every level, even on Sunday league. I've got absolutely no issue. I'm fine with it and I told him that to Patrick.”

Recent Playing Struggles

The forward made 18 appearances with Leeds United last season but the former Nottingham Forest, Chelsea FC & Boro striker has struggled with fitness issues over the past few seasons.
