The offspring of previous South African Head of State Zuma has entered a not guilty plea to terror-linked accusations at the commencement of her legal proceedings in the coastal city of Durban.

Duduzile Zuma-Sambudla, 43 years old, is being charged over comments she made on digital networks several years back during deadly protests in South Africa that came after the arrest of her dad.

A period of anarchy in various areas of the country in mid-2021, including theft and fire-setting, resulted in at least three hundred deceased and led to damage worth an projected $2.8 billion (2.2 billion pounds).

The defendant has been accused of inciting this turmoil and faces accusations of encouragement to commit terror-related activities and public disorder.

History of the Proceedings

The protests were focused in the regions of the Gauteng province and KwaZulu-Natal province and were triggered by the previous president's arrest for ignoring a judicial ruling to testify at an inquiry into accusations of corruption while he was serving as president.

Ms Zuma-Sambudla has always denied the accusations against her, with her lawyer in the past describing the state's legal argument as unsubstantiated.

She has also frequently stated the allegations against her were an effort to settle political scores with her father after he established his own political organization and campaigned against the ruling party.

Support and Court Representation

This was echoed by the Zuma foundation, which claimed the legal matter was an "power abuse" and a "coordinated attempt" of "political and kinship persecution" against the previous head of state and his family.

A handful of followers from her party, uMkhonto weSizwe, gathered outside the judicial building, while her father and other organization officials participated in the proceedings inside.

Her legal team has argued that the evidence presented by prosecutors is insufficient and lacks concrete evidence for a criminal finding.
