Chief Executive Signs Legislation to Release More Epstein Documents Following Period of Resistance

The President stated on Wednesday night that he had endorsed the legislation overwhelmingly passed by Congress members that directs the justice department to release more records related to Jeffrey Epstein, the late sex offender.

This decision comes after weeks of pushback from the president and his backers in the legislature that split his Maga base and created rifts with certain loyal followers.

Donald Trump had resisted disclosing the Epstein files, describing the matter a "false narrative" and condemning those who wanted to make the records accessible, even though pledging their disclosure on the election circuit.

But he altered his position in the last week after it was evident the House would approve the measure. The president said: "We have nothing to hide".

The specifics remain uncertain what the department will release in following the measure – the measure outlines a range of various records that should be made public, but includes exemptions for certain documents.

Trump Endorses Bill to Require Release of More the financier Records

The bill calls for the chief law enforcement officer to make unclassified related files accessible to the public "in a searchable and downloadable format", encompassing each examination into Epstein, his associate his accomplice, aircraft records and journey documentation, individuals referenced or named in connection with his illegal activities, institutions that were tied to his human trafficking or money operations, protection agreements and additional legal settlements, organizational messages about charging decisions, documentation of his imprisonment and demise, and information about possible record elimination.

The department will have 30 days to provide the files. The bill provides for specific exclusions, including redactions of confidential victim data or individual documents, any representations of minor exploitation, releases that would compromise active investigations or legal cases and representations of fatality or mistreatment.
