British Designer Antony Price, Renowned for Styling Bowie and Duran Duran, Passes Away at Age 80.
Fashion legend Antony Price, the visionary style architect who crafted a series of unforgettable images favored by musical icons like Bowie and members of Roxy Music, as well as Queen Camilla, has died at 80 years old.
Price was best known for his sculptured silhouettes and theatrical styles, such as the light-hued ensembles that became famous from the pop-rock group Duran Duran's seminal music video for "their hit Rio".
"Remembering him as a 'visionary' and a 'kind, intelligent and razor-witted friend,' the group posted a remembrance across their platforms."
Price's death comes just weeks after he unveiled his latest collection in London, which was his first major show in over 30 years. Singer Lily Allen walked in a dress inspired by the famous black velvet "revenge dress" historically worn by Princess Diana.
An Enduring Influence
A native of Yorkshire, born in 1945, Price relocated to London in the early 1960s to study at the esteemed Royal College of Art.
A year after graduating, he commenced his career designing men's fashion at the company Stirling Copper and was the creator of the tight, button-detailed trousers that Sir Mick Jagger wore during The Rolling Stones' "Gimme Shelter" tour in 1969.
He launched his own brand in 1979 and staged his first fashion show a year later. The show was launched by outfits on the famed model Jerry Hall, who was also seen in the bridal gown Price created for her for her nuptials with Sir Mick Jagger.
Working with Legends
A key creative partner of the late David Bowie, Price was the mind behind the iconic jacket the artist wore for his "the song As The World Falls Down" music video in 1986.
His characteristic talent to merge menswear and womenswear along with his technical proficiency in crafting sculptural silhouettes made him a "genuine original," as stated by the UK's fashion authority.
In the 1990s, he started creating pieces for the then-Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla, including several ensembles for her US tour after assuming the title.
Following a profession lasting more than five decades, Price staged what would be his last show in London just last month in collaboration with the fashion brand 16Arlington.
